Try (while running as root):

chmod 755 /etc

and then see if the problem persists.

If the problem isn't resolved by that change; show us the output from the command:

ls -ld / /etc /etc/mail

Actually I modified the /etc permission to 755 after that, I have found no errors.But I am going to check my mail id in browser.I don't get any mail in my mail id.I think the problem not resolves,Please take this Output as follows,

I am unable to send mail I have found some messages in maillog file.

Please resolve this problem and help me out.

No,I am executing a (Automatic mail alert for )Network Monitoring shell script from root.This script is used to monitor the Client PCs network and check whether the Network connection is available for 16 Client PCs and If any one is failure and sends automatic triggering mail.I want to run this script from root.I can't able to send the mail .Please help me out.

If mail queues are backed up because you had permission problems on / or /etc, it may take a while for the queues to flush. For your system's sanity, please change the owner of /:

chown root:root /

and then try flushing the queues with:

/usr/lib/sendmail -q

(Note that sendmail usually isn't on the default $PATH list; if it isn't in /usr/lib on your system, use man sendmail to find out where it is on your system.)

But, if you have never successfully sent mail to accounts on your target host, you may be missing a lot of configuration information that will be needed to successfully send mail to that host.
