confused on ls -l output
Here is my output from ls -l:

drwxr-xr-x 2 username username 4096 2005-12-27 09:51 bin
drwxr-xr-x 2 username username 4096 2006-01-30 13:03 Desktop
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 2006-01-30 09:13 somedirectory
drwxr-xr-x 6 username username 4096 2005-12-15 08:09 mystuff
drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4096 2006-01-31 15:06 testing
drwxr-xr-x 2 username username 4096 2006-01-31 09:05 tmp
drwx------ 5 username username 4096 2006-01-31 09:06 toolbox

I understand everything except for what I have bolded. What do these numbers represent?

those indicates the number of links to the filename listed
# 3  
Old 01-31-2006
hardlinks and softlinks? Are sub-directories considered hard links?
