Hi Scrutinizer...

LOL!

Terrific.

Some real cool stuff out there...

The _UNIX_ shell is SOOO unbelievably powerful...

BTW, anyone looked at the winning bash code in the URL?
Way cool...

Fun with exit statuses (tested with bash but should be portable):
Code:
exec 2>/dev/null; [; a=$?
:; b=$?
! :; c=$?
echo $a$b$c$LINENO

Was it tr with a couple of range expressions? If so, then yes. Clever workaround the digit restriction by extending the range by one at each endpoint.

I personally liked the dc solution. I may have even abused dc for a thread in this forum a couple years ago. Not sure.

Oh no. I just realized that the stderr file descriptor violates the digit prohibition. Grrrrrr.

One with bash's kill builtin:
Code:
kill -l INT TSTP HUP ILL | paste -sd '' | sed s/.//

Alister, yes the tr one...

Code:
AMIGA:barrywalker~>Last login: Mon Apr 28 21:20:10 on ttys000
AMIGA:barrywalker~> q;x=$(($?/$?));clear;printf $(($x+$x))$(($x-$x))$x$(($x+$x+$x+$x))

You beat me to "$?" but this is my version...

This is obfuscation to the extreme - which gives me an idea...

If I am quiet for a while guys/gals then I will be doing an experiment using these ideas...

Obfuscated project... ;o)

There's a 2 in 2>/dev/null. I don't see a 1 in that or any subsequent code.

Although I do see a 2 and 1 in wisecracker's code.
