Thanks a lot for all the responses ,surely a new learning for me .

However the output is created one record per file and my requirement is to keep 2 records in each file and each record will be separated by 4 blank lines as well

The file format is fixed a record will always have 7 lines ,3 lines of records and 4 blank lines

is there any solution for that?

Thanks again!!

Your requirements are vague, but this seems to do what you want:
Code:
awk '{ print > (FILENAME "." int(((NR - 1) % 14) / 7)) }' addresses

If the file addresses contains:
Code:
1 Name ABC
2 Address London
3 Age 32
4
5
6
7
8 Name DEF
9 Address London
10 Age 30
11
12
13
14
15 Name DEF
16 Address London
17 Age 30
18
19
20
21
22 Name DEF
23 Address London
24 Age 30
25
26

this script will produce a file named addresses.0 containing:
Code:
1 Name ABC
2 Address London
3 Age 32
4
5
6
7
15 Name DEF
16 Address London
17 Age 30
18
19
20
21

and a file named addresses.1 containing:
Code:
8 Name DEF
9 Address London
10 Age 30
11
12
13
14
22 Name DEF
23 Address London
24 Age 30
