My question is about VNC'ing to a Linux server on the network.
MY PC: OpenSuSE 11.4 (i586)
Remote Server: OpenSuSE 12.3 (x86_64)
So when I VNC to this server everything runs just fine for a good while. Then, most likely after hitting some kind of key-combo, my backspace stops working (*unless I do 'ctrl+backspace'). And also, trying to switch between windows I suddenly can't just click anywhere within an app that is open to bring that into focus, I have to click the titlebar in order bring up that app again. For example, if gedit is open and I can see it behind a terminal window and I click on the document part of gedit (*i.e. where the words/code is written) it does NOT switch to that window... Unless I click on the 'titlebar' portion of a window.
I know sometimes the Alt, Ctrl and Shift buttons can get stuck in the 'on/pressed' state and you have to click whichever button it was again and it will go back to normal... But when this happens, I cannot seem to fix it without having to kill the Xvnc session and start a new one... Which is a bit of a pain.
EDIT: One other thing I forgot to mention. If I leave the vncviewer session and then re-vnc back into the server, the same issue persists...
Does anyone know if there is some kind of key-combo I may have pressed in order for this to happen..? I tried re-press ctrl/alt/shift, but it didn't change anything.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!
I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with the keyboard configuration on the server?
I see mention of the keyboard in the vnc session's log file down towards the bottom... See below.
This is the log file located at
This problem seems to be getting worse... I thought that maybe it had something to do with a key combination I may have pressed
but I was VNC'ed into the server and typing something in a Gedit window (*almost positive I pressed NO other keys other then just characters).
Then when I was finsihed my thought I went to click on a terminal window open in the same vnc session and I could not click on it, at
this point backspace stops working normally and now what seems new is the arrow keys stop working...
And the ONLY way I have found that "fixes" the problem is to do a:
Then I restart the VNC session...
