SCO Openserver 5.0.7 login problems

Hello Guys.

This might be really easy for you guys but i'm really going crazy about this problem.
I have this user that is trying to login to my unix box and it will not let him pass the point where it says TERM = (ansi ) and the last line that shows is teminal is ansi. It wont go any further.

We try to login with a different user name that we know is good and the same thing , he has access to other unix systems and there is no problem.
Also we went to msdos ( is a windows xp pro) and type telnet and the ip and we get a login but then again the same thing.
We are using Tiny Term For emulation, when he tried to login as root it goes to the number sign.
Please guys if anyone know the answer to this question i will apreciate it.

Thanks a lot

Jose

Check the syslog file to see what errors messages are being logged.

the error you're seeing for this account is related to the user's shell initialization files (i.e., $HOME/.profile for sh and ksh, $HOME/.login for csh, $HOME/.bashrc for bash, etc. ) ...

copy the appropriate initialization file from a working user login into the non-working user's home directory and you should be ok ...

good luck!

Thanks a lot for the reply

The problem is that i have used another user login that i know for a fact is ok and i'm getting the same problem.

In fact if i use that user's login name from lets say my computer at home i can login with no problem is only when he uses at home,

Maybe this will help you guys, also the user is having problems RDP into a Windows 2003 server wich it was fine before, again same problem he cannot login even with the firewall is open for everyone , i know this is a unix forum i really dont care about getting the rdp working is just for you guys to see if this info will help.

Thanks a lot

i thought that this was a normal login being attempted from within the local LAN ... anyways, i'd check the firewall settings on the user's home network, the user's ISP and check whatever else changed recently on the user's home computing environment (i.e., windows patches, etc.)

Help!!!!

Thanks again ,

I went to the user's home with my laptop and then again the same problem even with a laptop that i know was working fine at my office when i log in to the unix box.

The only thing left is the ISP but i have no idea how to troubleshoot it , no clue where to start and you know that it wont be any good calling the ISP support.

Thanks again

Jose

I went to /usr/adm and vi the file call messages, is that file the one you want me to take a look at?

thanks
