I did tried Yoda, Akshay, Vgersh99 inputs but those are not effective either.
Reading 4.5 GB of data is going to take a while no matter how you do it. Without knowing a lot more about your system and a lot more about the format of the actual data you're processing, I can't make any suggestions about how to improve performance.

So we can get a feel for how bad it is, how long is it taking awk to process the command above on your system when file.xml is a 4.5 GB file. And, how long does the command cat file.xml take (note that on some systems, redirecting the output to /dev/null won't provide a meaningful answer)?
