sed replace string with 'pwd'

Hey fellows!

I'm to replace the string "stringinfile" in file "startfile" with the name of the current working directory and write to a new file named "endfile". I know there are numerous posts about this, but I just cannot get it to work.

I'm extracting the name of current working directory using ${PWD##*/}
Any help appreciated!

Best regards,
Jakob

You are not giving us much to work from except to suggest reading the other threads again. What have you tried and what are you getting?

What OS version and shell are you using?

What do you get if you:-
Code:
pwd
echo "${PWD}"
echo "${PWD##*/}"

Sorry rbatte1, I am new to both UNIX and this forum.
Using a bash script and Ubuntu. I just figured out how to do what I needed 1 min ago.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve it, you are welcome :-)
Code:
var1=initString
var2=${PWD##*/}
sed "s/$var1/$var2/g" "inputFile" > "outputFile"
