Xargs
Hi,
can anyone tell me in detail ?

what the following do in detail ?
I am trying to get a largest number in a list

LARGEST=$(echo $* | xargs -n1 | sort -nr | tail -1)

xargs -n1 |
# numeric sort in reverse
sort -nr |
# Get last thing in list
tail -1

But how are you giving the list?

The way you load LARGEST is by using positional parameters... is that what you want?

The largest will not be with -nr but simply -n option of sort...
