printing to HP jetdirect

How can I print from Unix (AIX) to a printer running HP Jetdirect card. I've been reading so much stuff from the internet that it made me so confused already. The ip address of my printer is 10.1.1.75. Could somebody please give me an instruction on how to accomplish this. Thanks.

I'd like to know the answer to this one as well!

I've placed an entry in /etc/hosts for the JetDirect box and have the JetDirect stuff installed on the server.

I was advised to use 'smit' but haven't been having much luck, I think my sticking point is 'HOSTNAME of the JetDirect Card'.

In my case, I wish the queue to be called 'lsapq01'.

Regards,
-Darran

'HOSTNAME of the JetDirect Card'? If you were able to edit your etc/hosts file then your Host name would be lsapq01, as long as you mapped this name to your Jet Direct Cards IP address. How were you able to install the Jetdirect software to your unix.. Do you mind giving me detailed instruction.. Thanks

A colleague of mine has previously set up a couple of queues for printers using JetDirect card and thus he'd installed the software so unfortunately I don't know how he got that part of it installed.

I know what my queue name is, but it's the syntax of the hostname that's getting me; other JetDirect queues have a device name of hp@queuename.

hp@queuename...... hp@ is standard and the word after that is not really the queuename but the hostname... let's say your host name is darran then your entry should be hp@darran.. How do you set up Host "darran"? go to /etc folder then vi hosts.. add an IP address entry with the name darran.. save it then add a print queue... you have to choose in the list that you want to assign a HPJetdirect queue... assign a name and put in your host "darran" on your host field, or you could just put in the IP address directly.. Hope I've explained it clear enough..

Cheers - I'm not quite sure what I was doing wrong before, but I've got the new queue added and running like a treat!
