The error output is because you need to change the quoting...

i.e.

echo "Error: Problem encountered in running: $SQLStatement"

But I don't think that the error is being caused by expansion now that quoting is correct. Have a look at the logfile created by this: db2 "$SQLStatement" >> $LogFile... and see what problems are there...

Oh you're right, and so was Perderabo.... thanks for this.

The echo out wasn't working properly, but the command was being issued to db2 correctly... and db2 helpfully returned an error because the select returned no rows Smilie

Once again my grateful thanks for your help
