Linux Scripts

I'm pretty new to the world of linux, so no flames please.

I know there is a plethora of info out on the internet about writing scripts for linux, but few give actual examples.
I need some help with learning the basics of writing some simple scripts to learn the difference between windows and linux.

For example, creating a script that produces a text file with a listing of the directory that you are at, and a script that copies all of the files in the directory to another directory, also how to embed your name or other info in the program.

I know these are the basics, but I really want to learn.

And yes, I did read the rules before I posted this, and they are not homework questions. I learn better by example, and what better place than a forum.
