Have you read the manual page for date?

You could:-
Code:
mytime=`date +%T`

If it's not the current time you are after, but it's being read from a variable:-
Code:
print $full_data_time | read a b c d e mytime f

or more efficient in ksh
Code:
mytime="${full_date_time% *}"
mytime="${mytime##* }"

...although that's two statements.


If you're using the awk from Yoda already then probably best to adjust that rather than to read it into a variable with awk and then perform another process.
