UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hello,

Is there a command on Unix to remove all .class files when you're compiling and running Java programs? I think I used something called "javaclean" at school, but maybe that was a pre-written script? Does anyone know how to do this?

If you do Java development, probably you should use a build tool (such as Make) for that. For Java, Apache Ant is commonly used for this purpose. You can write a simple target in the build file with a few directives to remove all class files recursively easily with, say an "ant dist-clean" command. Otherwise, a command can be specified that can be as simple as

find . -type f -name '*.class' -exec \rm {} \;

(Test before real use)

I've never heard of "javaclean". I think it is more likely to be a custom script that uses a command similar to the above given.
