Another question if you guys don't mind, if you do this:

cat * |mailx -s xxxxx <email>

it will send files to a email address displayed as sdout, is there a quick way to send files to a e-mail address but as a attachement? Say if I renamed files to .xls on unix, and sent them to a e-mail address so someone could open them up as xcel sheets on a unix box? This would be nice instead of having to use ftp to copy them. Thanks.

We attach an excel sheet and send it in the mail. But the problem is, when the excel sheet is opened, the original formatting of the excel sheet does not appear. For eg.: a number such as 018611620000000002001 appears as 1.86117E+19

What shoudl be done to get the same number when the receiver opens it.

widen the excel column. Typically excel will show a number in scientific notation if the column to too small.
