Need help with find command

I am executing
grep "ebpp.consumer" `find . -name "*.txt"` at root dir.

I just want to list Only those Text files with 'ebpp.consumer' in the file.

The problem i am having is there are many mount points that this user has no access to, so all those gets listed as "find: cannot read dir" whn i try this.

Can someone help.

Thanks in advance.

There's no way to avoid the problem of a user being unable to read a directory other than to run the command as a user who can (probably root).

The command you use will work though it would more normally be written something like:

find . -name \*.txt | grep "ebpp.consumer"

How about this ?

Code:
find /dir/to/search -name '*.txt' -exec grep 'ebpp.consumer' {} \; -print

Does this gave the same error ?

Thinking about the original post, it's a little unclear as to whether you want to find files which actually contain the string or filenames which contain the string ... I assumed filenames. Vino's response correctly searches the files contents for the string.

As stated you cannot get around file permissions, but if you do not want to see them, append this to your command: 2>/dev/null

find . -name \*.txt | grep "ebpp.consumer"
just searches for the text "ebpp.consumer" in the filenames

and
find . -name '*.txt' -exec grep 'ebpp.consumer' {} \; -print
will search in the actual files, which i am looking for here..
it also works same with grep "ebpp.consumer" `find . -name "*.txt"`

But my question of avoiding
"find: cannot read ir ./bea_bef813upg/user_projects/domains/EdocsProd/jcpenney: Permis
sion denied"
such messages still exists

even by uning 2>/dev/null

How are you using 2>/dev/null? It needs to be appended to the end of the find command.... e.g.
Code:
$ touch file_1
$ touch file_2
$ mkdir dir_1
$ mkdir dir_2
$ chmod 000 dir_2
$ find . -print
.
./dir_1
./dir_2
find: ./dir_2: Permission denied
./file_1
./file_2
$ find . -print 2>/dev/null
.
./dir_1
./dir_2
./file_1
./file_2

Otherwise, which shell are you using? 2> type redirects will not work with C-based shells.

Cheers
