I have checked the man page ,which says :
The -H (HOME) option sets the HOME environment variable to the homedir of
the target user (root by default) as specified in passwd(5). By default,
sudo does not modify HOME

I need some help on solaris, setting java path:
$ PATH=/var/tmp/jdk1.5.0_22/jre/bin
$ export PATH
$ java -version
I got the correct version for the application to run, which is:

i vi .profile Set DATE `date +%m%d%Y%H%M`, but after logout/login, echo $DATE, it shows: Fri Mar 23 15:01:53 EDT 2012, i want to show: 032320121501

I have a directory structure built with links. For example: /home/user1 is a link to /var/123/user1
can i set the home variable in the .profile of the user to use a link? or it has to be a "real" directory?

and group calle --tec

This is on a Solaris 9 box, but I feel like a noob, so I am posting here. When I echo $PATH I get a lot of duplicate paths and extra stuff I don't need. What I want is just what I set up in my home dir under .profile

hi , i added ls -F to .profile. and i need to do ./.profile for the effect to take effect BUT i didnt and YET the next day when i came to work and log in, the changes took effect. i am on aix.
