UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

hi,

I have a file containing names, say n number of names,

sample file

robin
smith
dallas
frey
cook

all these names are in a file name called names.txt and it is placed in a directory called /data/names

all i want is to write a script, which will read from the file and gives the output in the screen as

Hi robin how are you?
Hi smith how are you?

etc..

how do we do this.

pls help

ya it is working, but can u tell me the logic,

is it something like , you are taking the file name as the variable name .. or is there any other logic

file name is not the variable here. The contents of the file is the variable.

As long as there are entries, handle them one at a time, and perform the required action on each. In this case, just echo them to the terminal.
