UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,

I am running this command, to know abt the "for" loop command

echo " enter how many numbers you want to give"
read num
for i in 1 .. num
do
echo "Hi this is the $i message"
done

if i give the input as 3 then

i shd get the output like

Hi this is the 1 message
Hi this is the 2 message
Hi this is the 3 message

but i am getting the output as
Hi this is the 1 message
Hi this is the .. message
Hi this is the num message

pl help

cool it is working, but cant we use for loop for the same situation

Is it some schoolwork/homework question ?

sorry boss, that was not my intention,

actually i am trying out all possible way outs to solve a problem,

if while is working , they FOR should work right, thats why i asked..

Try this.

i=$((i+1))
done
