Suse 9.1

Right i have started using SUSE 9.1

Installed onto my machine. After a shut down restart is wouldn't load up the GUI, instead it asked me for my login details and then took me to

<xxxxxx@localhost'>

well something like that. the UNIX prompt i guess.

My question is...

What command would i use to load up the GUI from here?
such as in windows you can just type 'win'

Anyhelp would be greatful

Sounds like your graphics are not set up correctly.

uumm (i could be wrong here) try 'Xconfigurator' to setup your graphics. Also my might need to upgrade the Xfree86 your running if you have a newly purchase/made graphics card.

In the past (in the 6.x/7.x), SuSE came with 'sax'/'sax2' to adjust X display settings.

Now I'm not sure whether this app has been incorporated into 'yast'/'yast2' (whichever is appropriate for your version)

As a last resort, I usually use 'xf86cfg' if one is available

It's still sax/sax2 and it has been integrated into yast/yast2, but still calls sax when doing the X config.

right im not at home to try this yet BUT if this is setup correctly would it allow the system to boot straight into the shell in the future rather than the kernal. As im new to Linux i would like to start with the shell and go from there
