To list old 5 files

Hi,

I have the files as listed below in one directory. From this I want to list out only the 5 files whch are too old.
Code:
#cd /tmp/
#ls -ltr *
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24243455 Aug 18 21:02 ten
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3549121 Aug 18 21:00 nine
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24158848 Aug 18 20:47 eight
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29398639 Aug 18 20:45 seven
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26705993 Aug 18 20:32 six
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4343874 Aug 18 20:30 five
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21643630 Aug 18 20:17 four
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28277108 Aug 18 20:15 three
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26919801 Aug 18 20:02 two
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5055793 Aug 18 20:00 one

i.e., It should display 5 old files which are too old.

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4343874 Aug 18 20:30 five
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21643630 Aug 18 20:17 four
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28277108 Aug 18 20:15 three
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26919801 Aug 18 20:02 two

You can use tail (or head depending on what order you list the files).

Check out the man pages:
head
tail

Thanks for ur reply.

But in my case it should list out all the files other than first 5 latest files. How can i list.. Because i can not predict the no of files in my directory.. Files will be created automatically time by time.. So need to list out all the files other than first 5 files (i.e other than ls -lt *|head -5)..

ls -lt *|head -5 will display first 5 files.
But i want to display other than the files listed from "ls -lt *|head -5"

Read the tail man page which Scott so graciously linked. Hint: +.

from man tail:
Code:
       -n, --lines=K
output the last K lines, instead of the last 10; or use -n +K to
output lines starting with the Kth

Code:
ls -lt | tail -n +5

Hi,

That is not working.

Code:
# ls -lt * | tail -n +5
usage: tail [+/-[n][lbc][f]] [file]
       tail [+/-[n][l][r|f]] [file]
#
