use cut or awk to print line after "/bin"
Hello all,

i am trying to use cut or awk to make my below lines to

From

$ ps -ef|grep tns|grep -v grep |grep LISTENER_TEST|awk '{print $9}'
/oracle/ORAHOME/test/112/bin/tnslsnr

to

/oracle/ORAHOME/test/112

how can this be achieved ? so basically anything before "/bin"

can you post the output of

If you have lines like cut | grep | awk | grep | grep | kitchen | sink, you can probably replace the entire line with a single awk. awk's a language, not a glorified cut.

grep -v grep is never necessary.

ps -ef | awk '/\/oracle\/ORAHOME\/test\/112\/bin\/tnslsnr/ { P=1 }
        /\/oracle\/ORAHOME\/test\/112/ { P=0 }
        /tns/ && /LISTENER_TEST/ && P { print $9 }'

how to get the path
echo /oracle/ORAHOME/test/112/bin/tnslsnr | awk '{i=index($0, "/bin"); print substr($0,1,i-1)}'

/oracle/ORAHOME/test/112
