hi guys

I found this fix I am not sure what ir does but it mounts my shares after rebooting my Suse 11 Server

I just added sleep 40 and that will mount my 4 NFS shares....
Something I saw was I set it first to 30 secs and only 3 shares were mounted after I set it to 40 secs all my four NFS shares are up

what causes this sleep? Does it mean slow down the boot process 40 secs?
and If I add more NFS shares I have to increment to like 60 secs?

Code:
vi /etc/init.d/nfs

start-yes|force-start-*)
echo -n "Starting NFS client services:"
        sleep 40
           if ! check_portmap ; then
            echo "portmap/rpcbind is not running"
            rc_failed 3
            rc_status -v
            rc_exit

I do not see the rest of the code and I'm not used to Suse Linux, but, I think the main issue is the response time of the NFS server. Sleep causes the script to be idle for 40 seconds during which the client gets response. Without sleep, the control immediately passes to the next line of code and that causes the issue.

Yes, your booting process is supposed to be 40 seconds slower than the usual, not if Suse 11 uses some kind of parallel start-up script execution (similar to RHEL 6's upstart or more recent Systemd).

Do you mean to say that the NFS service does not start after rebooting the NFS server even though it's turned on for that runlevel?

I think it's not very fancy way to fix it but it worked I could not find anything from suse as such

Did you try using the "_netdev" option in fstab for NFS mounts?

Quote:
_netdev
The filesystem resides on a device that requires network access (used to prevent
the system from attempting to mount these filesystems until the network has been
enabled on the system).
I mean:

Code:
192.168.7.31:/vol/vol_tsmstg01 /tsmstg01 nfs defaults,_netdev 0 0

and so on.
