As well as everything said by vgersh99, I also want to stress that a statement such as "Unfortunately it's not working" is not going to help you. Why isn't it working? What output do you get? What output do you expect? What input are you supplying? What error messages (if any) are displayed?

Anyway, used on your *original* input file, the posted sed is fine. It would be well worth your while reading a good sed tutorial (ref: google.com) at this point.

First of all there is no use to offend me. Secondly before I post my question here I searched in google and read the man sed but the result I wanted didn't appear. For the code that you sent me, I understood it and I thought it was right but it's giving me as an output an empty file. I modified it with many ways and I didn't manage to get the result I wanted. Tha's why I said it is not working (I am using SSH in windows). I am very new in unix and that's why I have questions that maybe for you it's annoying to answer.

sickboy,
Seeing 'unfortunately is not working' doesn't really give too much to go on AND doesn't say too much whether the OP has really tried anything on his/her own.

Usually googlin' is a good starting point, but it will not give you a solution to you particular problem - but will rather provide you with a set of solutions/hints to the similar issue. You'll have to use the gained knowledge and apply it to you particular situation.

Unfortunately c'est la vie!

Having said all of that... Have you tried the code from my last posting?
You'll have to examine your input data sample and see if it "maps" to the posted code - in most cases it's the data source that doesn't jive with the description.

Pls come back if you have any further issues.

It is not annoying to answer questions, I answer the questions because I enjoy it and I like to help people Smilie It is never my intention to offend, only to provide proper guidance and help where I can.

But you do need to provide more information when you say things are not working - describe the problem you are experiencing, and what you have done to try and fix it. Post the commands that are not working, post a sample of the input file you are executing the commands against. Are there any errors? Just provide more information and people will be able to assist you in solving your problems.

Learning Unix is a vast (and enjoyable) voyage of discovery - and you will learn a lot here by posting specific questions.

Good luck.
