This worked perfectly .. .

I am just trying to save it with the same file name ... instead of a different file name .. I tried with > a.txt at the end .. but the resulted text is blank.

May be should i store the initial file name in a variable and then rename the resulted variable ? is this approach good ?

$ column_size=$(awk -F, 'a<NF{a=NF}END{print a}' a.txt)
$ awk -F, -v OFS=, -v c="$column_size" 'NF=c' a.txt > output.txt
$ mv output.txt a.txt

The correct way to post this would have been :
Send a last post saying thanks it works - So we mods can flag the thread as solved then
Open a new thread - with link to previous so people see the continuity.
