Hi Friends,

While calling a function in below scipt

Code:

func_serv_logs ()
{
find . -type f \( \( -name 'WLS*' -o -name 'access*' \) -a ! -name '*.gz' -a ! -newer ${REFERENCE} \) -print | while read FILENAME
do
                echo  "hi"
done
}

I suspect that there is no value in $REFERENCE .

hi Methyl,

its giving same error with above script also.
moreover I have executed this loop
Code:

find . -type f \( \( -name 'WLS*' -o -name 'access*' \) -a ! -name '*.gz' -a ! -newer ${REFERENCE} \) -print | while read FILENAME
do
                echo  "hi"
done

its giving proper o/p.
only when i am calling the function it gives erroneous o/p.
OS is sun 5.8.

I've forgotten which Shell you are using. Also, your version of SunOS was discontinued earlier this year.

Suggest you try echoing $REFERENCE within the function to see if it is set. Some Shells execute functions in a Sub-Shell which has its own local variables. If that is so, you will need to call the function with a parameter containing the value of $REFERENCE and use $1 within the function.

On the surface, placing the command in a function would appear to be pointless unless you need to call the command more than once in the same script.
