Few problems

Hi

how can i do this?

1) shell script which writes data and time on to a file if filesystem exceeds 70% of space.

2) make entry to cron table to run a script every 15 mins.

and can anyone expplain or demonstrate the difference between variables used in inside a function and outside a funstion(both variables hav the same name)

ps : this is not homwork.....i am working ..i jus wante dto learn unix and doin some case studies...

man df
man grep
man date
man <whatever shell you use>

That should be all you need... maybe "man sed" and "man awk" too if you're feeling adventurous - there are many ways to solve this.

2)
man cron

Part of the fun of learning UNIX is searching these forums and Google - a voyage of discovery....

People are not going to write your scripts for you. We are all more than willing to help people and answer specific questions - not regurgitate manual pages and write complete solutions.

hi ,
sorry ......i was trying with man......but i am omplete newbee.....i wasnt ablt understand head or tail of it......i have tried for over 2 hrs without bien able get a proper solution which works...tahst y i posted on forums...anyway its not homework or anything..it jus for learning myself....:-)


anyway ill go back and try again!! (what am i doin on weekend ?? !! :-)) )

Hi,
I used
0,15,30,45 * * * * echo "hello" >> hellofile.txt

will the file be created automatcially....will the job be sceduled automatically or shud i run any command to start cron up?
