UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,

I was reading on the net and something caught my eyes it was something about learning how to become a hacker. This site said that the best thing you can do to start is to use a Unix. My first question is: What is an Unix?
Then I would like to ask you how can I download one on my computer.

Please explain what you mean by "hacker."

Anyway... try searching Google for Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, or Solaris, which are all freely available *NIX variants (except for Linux, which is really just a kernel )

I do not think that the OP is talking about the kind of hacking that is acceptable. A lot of "script kiddies" think that downloading Linux is the best way to start accessing systems illegally and maliciously.

The OP should read the rules.

Also, the OP would benefit from looking through the FAQ area of the forums as the "where can I download UNIX" part of the question is answered there.
