Question Removing the logs of previous date
Hi folks,

Please advise there is directory named logs and which there are several logs are there with the name appended by date , I can take out the latest one through

Code:
cd /var/log
ls -ltr

but please suggest the command through which I can remove the logs of all the previous dats , the fils names are

Code:
abc05292012.log
abc05282012.log
abc05272012.log

# 2

Code:
ls *.log |grep -v [todays date in your format]

should list what you want to remove no?

Belt and braces approach using find to do all the hard work.
Code:
MMDDYYYY="`date +%m%d%Y`"
find /var/log -type f \( -name 'abc????????.log' -a ! -name "abc${MMDDYYYY}.log" \) -print | while read filename
do
        # Remove echo when tested
        echo rm -f "${filename}"
done
