FTP Script

Hello ; )

I need help to make 2 ftp script in one ... this will be, for me, faster to use on day to day ...

I am on solaris 9 and I am using KSH.

All ftp script are just connecting to ftp server and show files in directory, that's it.

The scripts build a .netrc file to get the connection.

Here is what I did, but it's not working. THanks in advanced for your help.

Code:
# VARIABLES FTP SITE 1
FTP_1=IP_ADRESS
USERNAME_IN_1=usename
PASSIN_1='password'

# VARIABLES FTP SITE 2
FTP_2=IP_ADRESS
USERNAME_IN_2=username
PASSIN_2="password"

# VARIABLES PACTE
USERNAME_PC=username
PASSPC=password

# PHASE 1

if [ $# -lt 1 ] ; then
# Build  .netrc
cat > ~/.netrc <<EOF
machine machine_name
login $USERNAME_PC
password "$PASSPC"
macdef init
quote site $FTP_1
user $USERNAME_IN_1 $PASSIN_1
prompt off
pwd
dir
cd download
ls -lrt
quit

EOF
else
  echo " usage : error "
  exit
fi

# Go On ftp
chmod og-r ~/.netrc
ftp machine_name
\rm ~/.netrc

# PHASE 2

if [ $# -lt 1 ] ; then
# Build .netrc
cat > ~/.netrc <<EOF
machine machine_name
login $USERNAME_PC
password "$PASSPC"
macdef init
quote site $FTP_2
user $USERNAME_IN_2 $PASSIN_2
prompt
cd pub/test/testing
dir "*P_SK*"
pwd
quit

EOF
else
  echo " error "
  exit
fi

# execution du ftp
chmod og-r ~/.netrc
ftp machine_name
\rm ~/.netrc

Hi,
instead of using the cat command with redirection to build .netrc, use echo command with redirection.

Also, you're not using an here script so you could do it without <<EOF commands delimters.

have a look at: Unix -> .netrc

I cannot comment on macdef (never used it).
The login details line in a .netrc file is like this (all on the same line):
Code:
machine machine_name login $USERNAME_PC password "$PASSPC"

Also a .netrc file should have permissions 600 . See man .netrc.
The whole idea of the .netrc file is that you do not have plain text passwords in the script, so creating the .netrc file in a script defeats the object.

Hello,

I did not write the two scripts. The only thing I can do is to use them individually ... Smilie

So instead of that way, I am just trying to create a new script, for me, that will do the job .. But I can't change a lot of things ... I am sure you know why ...

Thanks
