Filling in empty columns with "X"

I have a text file which includes empty columns with missing values. I want to fill the empty columns with the character "X". How do I go about doing that? Thanks!

You've asked dozens and dozens of questions on extremely similar subjects. Your time would be better served learning the awk programming language than expecting us to do it for you every single time.

Code:
awk -F"\t" -v OFS="\t" '{ for(N=1; N<=NF; N++) if($N=="") $N="X" } 1' infile  >outfile
