Change owner
How to change the owner of group?
-rw-r--r-- 1 lead lead
Now I need to change LEAD to SUBLEAD.. how do I do this.

I am using this command.
$chown -R sublead test.lck
I get this message
chown: test.lck: Not owner

I am logged in a LEAD..

All your help in regards are greatly appreciated.

from man chown (on an HP system):

In order to change the owner or group, you must own the file and have the CHOWN privilege (see setprivgrp(1M)).

It looks like you don't have the CHOWN privilege. You'll either need to log in as root or have your sysadmin give you that privilege. (It might be different on your system. Check the man page for chown to find out.)

Hello,
If you want to change the owner not the group:
$chown sublead:lead test.lck
which will change the owner to sublead but leave the group name as lead.
I'm not sure if this is what you are asking for?

Hi,
I tried this but was not successful on this....
$chown sublead:lead test
chown: test: Not owner

PS. test is a directory...
