I don't think that message is related to your awk statement could that be somewhere else in your script?

whole script:

start=`date +%s -d "$DateStart"`
end=`date +%s -d "$DateEnd"`
awk  -v start="$start" '{"date +%s -d \""$10"\"" | getline current} current > start' file.csv > temp.file

when I delete last line - error is not appearing.

Edit: tested and this works fine:

awk -v start="$start" '{"date +%s -d \"2008/12/20 00:00:00\"" | getline current} current < start' file.csv

2008/12/20 00:00:00 - example value from field $10

So what is wrong with this line ?

Then I think $10 may not contain what you think it contains. What does:

awk '{ print $10 }' file.csv

produce ?

Shouldn't you be using awk -F, or something, or what is your field separator in the csv file?

Hello,

I have defenied separator for this in letsgo.cfg file. Currently I pushed all stuff to one file:

start=`date +%s -d "$DateStart"`
end=`date +%s -d "$DateEnd"`
awk  -F '^"|","|"$' -v start="$start" '{"date +%s -d \"2008/12/20 00:00:00\"" | getline current} current < start {print $10 " "current " " start}' lol.tmp
#

lol.tmp contain 10 example lines from my basic file (~40MB ;/ )

About $10:
# awk -F '^"|","|"$' '{ print $10 }' lol.tmp
2012/02/22 00:00:00
2012/02/09 00:00:00
2012/01/05 00:00:00
2012/02/22 00:00:00
2012/03/01 00:00:00
2011/12/12 00:00:00
2011/12/12 00:00:00
2011/02/23 00:00:00
2011/03/24 00:00:00
2011/04/05 00:00:00

So why this wont work:

?

@Scrutinizer - sorry, but I cannot paste orginal record from this file (company data), but it looks like below:

"aaaaa","bbbbbb","ccccc","ddddd,eeeee","ffffff","ggggg","3","2012/02/22 12:25:21","2012/02/22 00:00:00","8","hhhh","iiii"

btw: Separator in awk is so weird because of this field "ddddd,eeeee", which may contain single comma

I can't change the value of my variable!
