Searching for a file on tape
I have AIX 5.1. I would like to verify that I have a directory saved to tape. I have tried to do a [find /dev/rmt1 /sxdev/db] but it brings up the info without reading the tape. What would I use to read this tape and look for a file or a directory?

Can you tell us what command was used to create the tape? Was it tar, cpio, dd, or some other backup utility? You'll need to use the same command with the same block size that was used to create it to be able read it.

The dd command can be used to verify that something is there but it will all be jibberish.

cpio -icdumvC16
doe,s that help? I know that I can restore using this but I would like to be able to read the tape and look for files also
