$/sbin/ifconfig `grep 'inet addr' | grep -v '127.0.0.0'` | awk '{print $2}'

a variation of moxxx68's post but same error ...
this actually doesn't work as /sbin/ifconfig needs a device name but instead is getting the info for the ip address that you're trying to get from it ... try this instead ...

if you know your network device name ... (replace eth0 with your actual device name) ...

$/sbin/ifconfig eth0 | awk '/inet/ {print $2}'

if you don't know your device name and there's only one network connection to the box that you know of ...

$/sbin/ifconfig -a | awk '/inet/ && !/127.0.0/ {print $2}'
