For files umask is subtracted from 666, and 777 for directories. Hence when umask is 000 the file is created with -rw-rw-rw- permissions.

If you ask for 777 permissions, you will get them. umask just reduces permissions, it can't give you more than you asked for.

However, nothing does because creating every possible file with executable permissions would be silly. 666 is already plenty silly enough.

I agree with Corona688, files with permissions 777 or 666 are a security nightmare because any user can change them.

anytime people ask about 666 or 777 it is very likely they are about to do something stupid....

there is often a better way to get the results...

what are your needs?
