Please mention what the keyboard is plugged into.
First reaction is that you have a stuck "shift" key.

If this is a real terminal, try another keyboard.

If this is a PC with a terminal emulation program, try another keyboard first and then maybe check the terminal emulator's settings.

hi methyl,
i logged out of my system n logged back in.. its working fine now. I still dont noe wat was wrong in the first place.
It was definitely not a stuck shift key or a problematic keyboard.
Also wat do u mean by a terminal emulator? Sorry but am very new to all this.
Thanks for your reply. Smilie

A Terminal Emulator is a computer program running on a workstation such as a PC which emulates a real physical serial cabled terminal. One simple example is the Microsoft "telnet" program which emulates a 1980's DEC serial terminal (the DEC vt220 I think).

Many modern users have never seen a real serial terminal connected to a unix system except possibly as a system console (where the system does not have a graphics card onto which is connected a modern PC screen, keyboard).

Hard to guess what happened to your keyboard because we don't know a thing about what it was plugged into!
