Merge multiple files
Hi All,

How can I merge 3rd column of multiple files into 1 file, the column header in the merged file being the name of the file from which the 3rd column was taken. The first 2 columns of all the files are exactly same.

also there are more columns in input files , but I`m only interested in extracting the 3rd column with the first 2 common columns.

ok.. I could do upto concatenating all the column 3s together. Can someone help with adding the filenames as the headers please?

awk '{_[FNR]=(_[FNR] OFS $3)}END{for (i=1; i<=FNR; i++) {sub(/^ /,"",_[i]); print _[i]}}' file*
