(We agree machineB is a linux, yes?)

Wonder if its not because there is no .profile... copy yours or the one of oias in usertest's directory and see if it changes anything..
BTW to see the properties of usertest, just type id as usertest, or (may not work on all systems...) type:

Machine A(remote machine) : Linux S248-22 2.4.21-27.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Dec 1 21:59:02 EST 2004 i686 i686 i386

Machine B( local machine ) : HP-UX eclat B.11.11 U 9000/800 1165454651 unlimited-user license.

I copied .profile into usertest's home in machine A. But i am still prompted for password when i do remsh machineA -l usertest.

On machineA when i do id usertest :
uid=502(usertest) gid=500(oinstall) groupes=500(oinstall)

for oias (user not prompted for password) :
uid=501(oias) gid=500(oinstall) groupes=500(oinstall)

Who are you when on machineB you remsh ?

Basically on machine B i connect with user amd.
From machine B i remsh successfully to machine A with user oias but i am prompted for user usertest.
