Question Cannot delete files and directory

hello

i am trying to delete some files and also some directories. However, despite having the required permissions (i m the owner), Permission is being denied. I also tried to delete using find and inode number, but again Permission was denied.
Smilie

I am new to unix so please dumb down your responses.

Thanks in advance

P.S. Have already read the threads present, none of them were able to solve my problem.

Provide some more information, like full listing of what You are trying to delete (ls -al), Your account information (whoami), the command You're executing and exact error that occurs.

I am using:
rm -rf ABC #ABC is a non-empty directory

On long listing, for the directory ABC i get:
drwxr-xr-x 4 myname groupname 4096 Jan 24 16:11 ABC

The error message displayed is:
rm: cannot remove `./ABC' : Permission Denied

whoami gives me :
myname

can you do ls -alrt ABC ? there might be a file or directory under ABC directory who is owned by another user or group thats why recursive remove process may fail..

Did that. All sub- files and directories are also owned by me.

What are the permissions and ownership of ABC's parent directory?

I think CarloM has it. You don't appear to have write access to "." .

If the parent directory is owned by another user and has permissions like 755 you will not be able to create or delete a directory immediately under that parent directory.

Btw. I believe that your "rm -rf" will have deleted everything else under the "ABC" tree. It appears to be only the directory "ABC" itself which you cannot delete.
