Help with SNMPWALK

Hi

when I do the SNMPwalk, it doesn't seem to work. Please advice what I am doing wrong?

On my snmpd.conf file, I have this.

Code:
rocommunity badboy xx.x.x.x # Traverse Server

Also I have MIB files under /usr/share/snmp/mibs

Code:
[root@nyus03 mibs]# service snmpd status

snmpd (pid 23756) is running...

Code:
[root@nyus03 mibs]# snmpwalk -v 1 -c badboy localhost interface

Timeout: No Response from localhost

Please advice. Thanks.

Try using your actual hostname instead of localhost. I've run into that same problem in the past. If that doesn't work, do you have a firewall like iptables running?

Thanks for your reply. I don't have any firewall running on this server. I also tried with the hostname instead of localhost. I get the error message.

Please advice how your snmpd.conf file looks like? Maybe I made some thing wrong on that file?

Not sure what OS or version of SNMP you're using, but depending on the SNMP package you have installed it is accompanied with a few tools that assist with getting it setup correctly. One is the snmpconf command which helps get the snmpd.conf file setup correctly and another is the snmptest command to test the configuration and find inconsistencies.

Hope this helps.
