Checking file size

What is the best way to check the size of a file? We have a problem with our repository growing to an unmanageable size. If it is greater than 17000000 then I'd like to send a warning to our system administrators.

Use df -k
first and then find files having larger sizes ....

Rank top 10 files having larger size increased their size very recently and inform system adminstrators.

There are lot of ways to do that.

find ./ -size +17000000c -ls
will find files larger than 17000000 bytes and list them - output can be sent to a temporary file and emailed to admins. (remove c if bytes are not what you were looking for - see man page for find)
