I see what you're getting at. With careful parsing of the ps output, you could know if you have
a working listener running or not. I would probably work that out, especially with command
line trial and error, as suggested earlier. That's in addition to my suggestion below.
More importantly, though, a dead listener waiting on a script to check it, is a problem with robustness.
A noticeable amount of time could pass before the problem is automatically corrected, and users could
see failures.
As the listener failure was said to happen in a week or two under current load (if I remember correctly),
I would schedule a cron job nightly to kill *all* fmxdbc_listener processes, zombies or otherwise, and then
start a fresh one. The brief lapse in FileMaker service would be extremely limited and therefore more
likely go completely unnoticed.
I agree with you but this "zombie" process to me not standard in the I way I see defunct procs ( It still has a parent...) therefor I would look to see what is the parent etc...
I agree with you but if you know there is an issue and you are likely to see it happen again, I would start by stopping on the processes that are running, kill what is left, then search for that UID with ipcs command and do some cleaning using ipcrm if needed, I had oracle issues solved that way...
When I run the code (without redirect) with fmxdbc_listener running I get:
If I run it without fmxdbc_listener running I get:
I guess the occurence of 'fmxdbc_listener' in both responses is what is confusing it.
Ok, so going back to this post, I assume the grep statement is comparing a string to the output and matching 'fmxdbc_listener' in both, hence the problem. Should I instead search for './fmxdbc_lister' which only occurs in the first example?
Team,
I have multiple batchjobs running in VM, if I do ps -ef |grep java or tomcat I am getting multiple process list.
How do I get my exact tomcat process running and that is unique? via shell script? (4 Replies)

I would be happy if any one could help me with a shell script that would determine all the processes running on a Unix server and post a mail if any of the process is not running or aborted.
Thanks in advance
