Bash script

Hi All,

I want to write a script using bash. This is what I want to do:

There are some files in my folder, with the extension .stl. I want to take the name of these files, and add the filename to the end of the first line of the file. Similarly, I want to add the filename to the end of the last line of the file. I would appreciate if someone could give me a sed solution.

Regards,
Dhruv.

It's not pretty, but here goes. (First, BACKUP YOUR DIRECTORY with tar or zip or something).
Code:
for m in *.stl ; do
sed -i '1i\
'"$m"'
;$a\
'"$m" "$m"
done

Those awkward line breaks are unfortunately required.

Oh and there's nothing bash-specific about this.

code did not run

Hi otheus,

Thanks for the reply. The code did not work for me as desired. Smilie It adds the name of the file before the first line, that is it creates another line for it.

What i wanted was that the filename should be added in the first line itself, at the end of a string.

say... my first line is solid, so i want the new file to say solid filename

sed -i '1s/$/'"$m"'/;$s/$/'"$m"'/;' "$m"
