Solaris 8 label command

I have a RAID 5 set that is 100GB. i recently added more disks to the RAID so its now 225GB.

In order for Solaris to recognize the new disk size i was told to lable the disk again.

the disk is under Veritas Vol Mgr and File Sys control

will i lose data if i do this?

Is this RAID 5 hardware raid or through Veritas?

If the RAID is NOT hardware raid, then Veritas should be able to figure out that it's bigger. What size does Veritas show that this raid is?

the RAID 5 is Hardware based thru EMC.

right from EMC's website says:

Expanded LUN to make a metalun in the Clariion, and solaris host still sees orginal size

action:

bring up format
run autoconfigure on the drive
label 3 times
syn syn sync
reboot -- -r

i brought this to EMC's attention and they said it works and it will not destroy data. im only nervous about running these commands because its a production box.

It seems strange that you are using Veritas on these RAID - usually you use either hardware or software but not both. Have you contacted Veritas on this?

What is this RAID setup like in Veritas? Does it just see it as one big disk?

I would be worried too! So, to insure your production server make sure you have a good backup (old SysAdmin saying "The upgrade doesn't have to work, only the restore from backup" ). Make sure you can restore from the backup. Then try it (after checking with Veritas). Not much else you can do unless you have a dev/test server and some extra disks you can throw at it to try this there.
