conCATenate all the files and split into however many files you need.

Code:
awk 'NR<16{print $0}' filename > file1
awk 'NR>15 && NR < 26{print $0}' filename > file2
awk 'NR<25 && NR < 31{print $0}' filename > file3

To make sure you will always have the file split into 3 files:
Code:
csplit -s Your_File 1 {2}

You will have 4 files:
Code:
xx00
xx01
xx02
xx03

Disregard file "xx00".

csplit -s Your_File 1 {2}..Works fine

But major chunk of data is in xx03....while xx01 and xx02 has less data...am not saying it shud be equal...but a lil more or less proportionate would extremely be nice.

If the file has more than 2 lines:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/ksh
typeset -i mDiv
typeset -i mCnt
mCnt=$(wc -l < File)
mDiv=${mCnt}/3
split -l ${mDiv} File
