Printing a particular column using SED

Hi,

i want to display only the particular column using SED command.

For example,

Code:
ps -ef|grep [b]ash |sed -n '1p'|cut -d ' ' -f2

this gives 29067
Code:
ps -ef|grep [b]ash |sed -n '1p'|awk '{print $2}'

this also gives the same
in the same way i need the solution using sed.

Please help me

Hi, using sed, instead of
Code:
sed -n '1p'|awk '{print $2}'

you could use:
Code:
sed 's/[^ ]* *//;s/ .*//;q'

bash-3.00$ echo "1 2 3 4" | sed 's/.* \(.* \).* .*/\1/'

I'm curious. Why must you use sed? This task is tailor-made for AWK:
Code:
awk 'NR==1 {print $2; exit}'

You could also get rid of the grep:
Code:
awk '/[b]ash/ {print $2; exit}'
