awk for removing special characters and extra commas
Hi,

I have a .csv file which as empty lines with comma and some special characters in 3rd column as below.

Code:
Source data
1,2,3,4,%#,6
,,,,,,
1,2,3,4,5,6

Code:
Target Data
1,2,3,4,5,6

I need to remove blank lines and special charcters

I am trying to get this using the below awk
Code:
awk -F"," '{$1<>"," && $5="%#" print$0}' OFS="," infile

But I am not getting the require output..pls tell me where I am doing it wrong.

Using "," as field separator, $1 will never have a "," in it. Possibly

Code:
awk -F"," 'length($1) && $5 != "%#" { print }' infile

# 3

You did not specify if you want to keep the line and remove special characters in it or if you want to remove the lines with special characters.

The following will remove:
1) Empty lines.
2) Lines with special characters.

Code:
sed '/^$/d;/[^a-zA-Z,0-9]/d' Inp_File
