qvt term with windows xp

I.m using qvt term to convert my windows xp laptop to work with sun ultra 5 unix system but i can't connect - my settings are off and i can't figure it out - i have a feeling it is my serial port # the porgramm is asking for. Can someone tell me where i can find this number. thanks Christine

telnet is port 23. You can also use the native MS Hyperterminal to get started. An ssh like putty is more secure, if the server supports it. Often, ssh tools have a secure file transfer gui, and offer compression.

I use vnc/ultravnc to get full X capability that does not fold up if I disconnect. I still may need a simple terminal to get it set up!

The device manager, under system in the control panel, may be able to tell you which device has which COM1,COM2,... port. If it's a USB com port device, it might be something odd like COM9.

Oh, good old rs232 serial! Smilie Gotta find the right port, baud rate, parity and size/number of stop bits, and have the right null-modem cable to convert the other side dte (data term equip) to look like dce (data comm equip) while satisfying all the status lines (DSR, CTS, CD, etc).

I think BlackBox sells adapters for anything to anything, so a console can become a network device. Good luck. Hyperterminal also does com ports.
