Log transforming a column in a text file?

How do you log transform a column in a text file? Thanks! Smilie

Could you be more specific? I don't know anything about your data or how it's formatted, but assuming it's just whitespace separated numbers:
Code:
awk '{ $5=log($5); } 1' < infile > outfile

That will do a natural logarithm on column 5.
